The joys of spring – monitoring deer densities

Measuring deer impacts across Scotland

  Spring marks the start of our national deer impacts survey (Nearest Neighbour) which we have undertaken for Forest Enterprise Scotland since 2008.  Our survey team’s travel across Scotland, visiting all the forest re-stocking coupes planted the previous year, to measure the level of deer impact that has accumulated over the previous winter. Peat grip blocking method trial

  Our programme of damming moorland grips on blanket mire has continued through January on our damming trial site in Lanarkshire. The project is well under way with many of the trial areas now dammed using our new faster method. This project has recently been featured on the IUCN UK Peatland Programme website.
