We began a really interesting project this month assessing the potential to restore active blanket bog on three sites in Lanarkshire. Two are currently afforested and one is an old peat extraction site. The sites are all very different, and it has been a really useful exercise being able to compare and contrast them in the initial part of the study. We plan to develop costed peatland restoration management plans for each site in due course, and advise the client on the best practical conservation work to undertake to help restore active blanket bog to the site. The client will be applying to the Peatland Action Fund for money to do the restoration.
